Fringe parties urge NC, UML to come clearly on governance structure
KATHMANDU, JAN 10 - The fringe opposition parties represented in the Constituent Assembly Tuesday suggested the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML to come up clearly with a model for the state of governance to be included in the new statute.
The fringe parties suggested the NC and the UML to find a meeting point on the issue at the time when the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee under the Constitutional Committee of the CA has already drafted a mixed model for the governance structure.
The fringe parties made such suggestions during the meeting held at Singhadurbar in the Capital this morning.
The NC has recommended electing a 'constitutional president' by Electoral Colleges and providing executive powers to the prime minister elected by the parliament.
Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML have been proposing that there should be a directly elected president who will share executive powers with the prime minister elected by the parliament.
The meeting urged the major three parties to pave way for the governance structure through discussions, Rastriya Janashakti Party Co- Chairman Prakash Chandra Lohani informed.
The next meeting has been slated for Thursday morning.
Earlier on Monday, the fringe parties had urged the Maoist and the government to abide by the pact signed in the past, mainly the seven-point agreement signed on Nov 1.
