Toronto, 14 Jan 2012, An allegedly impaired driver took an icy plunge Friday morning after he drove right off the road and into Lake Ontario.The driver was heading south on Lower Spadina Ave. when he failed to stop at Queens Quay and landed in the freezing water around 5:30 a.m.“He ended up in the middle of the lake,” Sgt. Jeff Zamit said from the scene.The driver was able to exit from the passenger side of the car, according to witnesses who also helped pull the man from the water.He was taken to hospital. He is now in police custody being investigated for impaired driving.Divers from the Toronto Marine Unit are on the scene and will be pulling the driver’s vehicle out of the water shortly.Early Friday morning, the temperature was -12 C, feeling more like -22 C with the windchill.
